I was the only one to show up at the starting corner at 5:45am so I ran alone again. I felt like I wanted a few good tempo miles this morning, and the normal route wasn't appealing, so I decided to run the neighborhood 5K course. I didn't want to run all out, but a little faster than my goal marathon pace (7:38/mi = 3:20 finish time).

After a half mile warmup over to the starting line, I ran the first (mostly downhill) mile at 7:01/mi, the next (flat) mile at 7:30/mi, and the final (mostly uphill) mile or so at 7:28/mi. I then ran another couple of easy miles (8:29/mi).

How are things going? I haven't seen any posts for the last couple of days and was worried that you might have gotten hurt or something. Hope things are going well for you.

Paul, I also ran the 1982 St. George, set my marathon PR 1983 at St. George, 2:55. What age division are you in? I am in 55-59. It seems you are racing Top of Utah, instead of St. George. Good luck? It seems your training is going good. B of BS Rools out.

Sorry I didn't reply to these comments earlier. Yes, I got hurt or something. I'm okay now.

I am 46. I didn't get into St. George via the lottery, so I decided to run Top of Utah, which I've been wanting to do for years. When I won a free entry into St. George at the Strawberry Days 5K, I decided to go ahead and try to run both Top of Utah and St. George. My goals are 3:20 for TOU, and to help pace a couple of friends to a 3:35 qualifying time at SGM. These are very aggressive goals for me, but my training has been going well this year (except for a few ankle sprains along the way).
